Theatre

The Theater program exposes students to the many different facets of theatrical storytelling. Using fairy tales, skits, fables and folk tales—as well as the work of William Shakespeare—students are invited to explore each new story and each new character. The different techniques used in the Theater program include Chekhov, Animal Work, Ensemble Building, and Stanislavsky. However, the focus is to allow and encourage students to make bold, alive choices on stage. Students focus on all aspects of the theater, including basic stage craft, voice projection, script analysis, and the creating of vibrant, alive characters.

Blessed Unrest

Blessed Unrest is the official youth theater company of Conchita Espinosa Conservatory of the Arts. Debuting in 2016 with our production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Blessed Unrest is dedicated to the voice of the student as an artist, and its focus is primarily on the work of William Shakespeare. Each year we present a main-stage production open to the public.

Youth Ensemble

(Ages 9-11)

Tuesdays
3:45 - 4:45

Students in Youth Ensemble will continue their exploration of theatrical storytelling. Their focus will be on creating clear behavior for the stage, character development, and ensemble building. The Youth Ensemble will culminate in a presentation of a short work, chosen each year.

Blessed Unrest

(Ages 11+)

Mondays & Wednesdays
3:45 - 5:15

*Students must be available for extra rehearsals (including Saturdays).

Students in Blessed Unrest will perform a play by William Shakespeare. These students will take on the immense responsibility of putting on a full production, and the expectations are very high. Students will need to tackle the language and vibrancy of Shakespeare's brilliant work, creating full-bodied characters, and exploring the language in fresh and exciting ways. This Shakespeare production is the main-stage production, presented at the school each spring.

At the end of the year, students who have shown their commitment to the theater department and the theater arts will be invited to become official members of the Blessed Unrest Theater Company—the official theater company of Conchita Espinosa Conservatory of the Arts. This ceremony will take place in the Rosita Segovia Theater at the years' end. Students in Blessed Unrest will be expected to attend all rehearsals, including weekend rehearsals, as necessary on Saturdays.
