The CEA Senior Dance, Music, and Voice Masteries spent four days in New York City taking classes and workshops with seasoned professionals in their respective areas, touring dance and music venues, and watching concerts and performances! From Broadway to Carnegie Hall, learning from renowned singers, dancers, instrumentalists, composers, and conductors, it was an eye-opening and fulfilling experience for everyone involved!
Dancers took classes at Paul Taylor Studio, Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, studied Fosse style at Broadway Dance Center, and took a commercial jazz class at 5678! They also watched the New York City Ballet and toured Radio City Music Hall.
Musicians took classes with Phil Reno, musician, musical director, and conductor best known for his work in Broadway’s ever-popular The Producers (2001–2007) and acclaimed producer, arranger, composer and conductor, Kim Sharnberg. Singers took classes with Evelyn Saavedra, renowned soprano, and Timothey Shew, Broadway actor and singer, who currently plays the Wizard in Wicked. Musicians and singers also had a private tour of Carnegie Hall with the original curator and historian Gino Francesconi, attended a musical theatre class at New York University, and went to Dizzy’s Jazz Club at Lincoln Center, where they were able to listen to the Yatam Silberstein Jazz Trio, featuring the legendary Al Foster and John Patatucci.
