Music opens doors, builds bridges, and inspires peace.
We had the honor of hosting the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura at CEA/CEC, who performed for our Upper School and had a dialogue and exchange with our music masteries!
The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, is an orchestra composed of children from Paraguay who play musical instruments made from scrap materials collected from Asunción’s Cateura landfill. They have performed in 60+ countries and alongside major artists, including Stevie Wonder and Metallica. Gloria Estefan’s new musical, Basura, the Musical, is based on their inspiring story about the power of music.

The concert and exchange was facilitated by the young musicians, who explained their personal stories and the origin of their instruments. Their performance was a beautiful showcase of their talent and hard work. Their story of perseverance, discipline, commitment, and passion for music and for life, was an inspiration to all who were present.
We are grateful to Favio Chavez, founder and director of The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, and to all of the young musicians who shared their gifts with us. Their story and passion was felt in every piece and extended beyond the stage.
The connections made were priceless, and our exchange reaffirmed what we believe at CEA – that music in a universal language that connects us as human beings. Music opens doors, builds bridges, and inspires peace.
